Erziehung und ihre Theorie unter der Bedingung der Demokratie
Erziehung ohne Streit ist kaum vorstellbar und das ist - so die überraschende These des Autors - kein Ärgernis. Im Gegenteil: Erziehung kann nur demokratisch sein, wenn Konflikte in der und über Erziehung akzeptiert, im Vertrauen auf eine gewaltarme Austragung riskiert und im öffentlichen und wissenschaftlichen Gespräch reflektiert und repräsentiert werden. Im Buch wird diese Einsicht in den Schriften der erziehungstheoretischen „Klassiker“ Friedrich Schleiermacher und Klaus Mollenhauer aufgespürt. In einer kritischen Lektüre von Hannah Arendts agonalem Politikbegriff bringt der Autor moderne Erziehungstheorien und gegenwärtige Theorien radikaler Demokratie ins Gespräch. Erkennbar wird so, dass moderne Erziehungstheorien über einen demokratietheoretischen Sinn verfügen und Demokratie ohne ihre Erneuerung im Streitgeschehen der Erziehung nicht denkbar ist. Ziel demokratischen Erziehens ist nicht Harmonie, sondern das Eingehen, Ertragen und Erfahren demokratischer Auseinandersetzungen.
Was wir verlieren und was uns bevorsteht
Aufklärung ist das Beste, was die Menschheit je hervorgebracht hat. Ihre Essenz besteht in dem Streben nach Objektivität und intersubjektiver Rechtfertigung. Ein elitäres Minderheitenprojekt, dem große Teile der Menschheit enorme Errungenschaften zu verdanken haben. Dennoch ist derzeit das Ende der zweiten Aufklärungsepoche zu beobachten. Ursächlich sind die immensen Belastungen einer emanzipierten Lebensform ebenso wie aktuelle politische und soziologische Stressfaktoren. Zu diesen gehören ein kapitalistisch verkürztes Freiheitsverständnis ebenso wie Migrationsbewegungen, eine mangelnde Verteidigung des ethischen Universalismus oder ein Antirassismus ohne Bewusstsein für negative Dialektik. Die Erosion bewirkt eine Rückkehr zu den autoritären Standardmodellen der Menschheit gepaart mit den technischen und medialen Potentialen der Moderne. Zeit für einen Blick zurück in Dankbarkeit und eine kritische Betrachtung dessen, was uns erwartet.
Synthesizing Generalized Evolution Theory
Do social systems evolve similarly to biological ones and societies similarly to organisms? For some time now, an interdisciplinary paradigm has been developing in this regard: the Generalized Evolution Theory. After pointing out differences between biological and cultural evolution, as well as different inheritance strategies, the book proposes a philosophy of science classification of the different approaches in this vast and ever-growing field of research. It leads from generalized microevolution to generalized macroevolution and to their synthesis. As evolution favors groups with high internal cohesion, it will also favor strategies and reward agents responsible for this cohesion. In the long run, generalized evolution selects those populations that exhibit a higher density of interaction.
Die unvoreingenommene Suche nach der Wahrheit bildet nicht allein das Leitmotiv der Wissenschaft, sondern kann auch in der Ethik eine entsprechende Relevanz entfalten. Wer eine solche Auffassung näher beleuchten will, ist gut beraten, auf die Realismus-Debatten aus der modernen Philosophie zu rekurrieren und ihre oftmals vernachlässigten Verbindungen in den Blick zu nehmen. The achievement of complete technical independence from natural forces would end the embeddedness of humanity within natural history. This book defends the necessity of ethical assessment against the automatism of relying on technical developments or market processes. To identify both the values and ethical limits of technology development, criteria for the goodness of human life, and for nature in general, are required. This includes a meta-ethical discussion of moral objectivity, philosophical anthropology, and moral history. On the basis of that discussion, conclusions are drawn about ethical debates in the domains of medicine, biotechnology, and information technology.

Die Auswüchse der technisch-ökonomischen Nutzung der irdischen Natur und die mit ihrer wissenschaftlichen Vergegenständlichung einhergehenden Verkürzungen lassen sich nicht ohne Kultivierung eines ästhetischen Naturverhältnisses einhegen. Unter diesem ist heute weniger denn je die selbstvergessene Kontemplation unberührter Natur zu verstehen. Vielmehr geht es um ein schöpferisches, potenziell lustvolles Erkunden der Möglichkeiten ,kooperativen‘ Zusammenspiels zwischen natürlich-irdischen Vorgaben und menschlichem Gestalten. Der vorliegende Band will zur Reflexion solcher Möglichkeiten beitragen.

An important aspect of narrative motivation is emotional understanding. The sequence of events completes an emotional cadence in the audience, which makes narratives meaningful for them. In this regard, negative emotions have an outstanding role. Based on general emotion-theories, positive emotions support approaching action tendencies while negative emotions endorse distancing and avoiding. However, this notion is not valid for aesthetic reception, because as research shows, aesthetic objects eliciting negative emotions greatly attract recipients and increase the intensity of the aesthetic experience. In aesthetic experience, it seems, negative emotions interweave with pleasure; moreover, they can be a source of pleasure. The studies of this volume discuss the role of negative emotions in the reception of fictional narratives with special interest to fear and disgust.

Within the broad framework of processual hermeneutics, this monograph studies rationality by investigating what are the fundamental cognitive mechanisms required for the cultural development of rational constructions. It analyses the basic cognitive competences through which the human being connects categories and operations in a manner that allows it to orient itself in the world. If both understanding and explaining are forms of human-specific orientation, what does asking the question “how” imply cognitively? This monograph focuses therefore on the human-specific array of cognitive mechanisms, here referred to as enarrativity.

Kaum ein Begriff hat so viele Erweiterungen und Umdeutungen erfahren wie der Begriff der Natur. Seit seiner Einführung in der ionischen Naturphilosophie befindet er sich in einem Prozess stetiger Revision und inhaltlicher Ausdifferenzierungen.
Die damit einhergehende Inkohärenz und Unübersichtlichkeit ist aber kein semantisches Unglück. In den verschiedenen begrifflichen Konstellationen zeichnen sich vielmehr der Ort der humanen Lebensform in der Natur und die epistemischen, ethischen und ästhetischen Einstellungen zur Natur ab. Die Beiträge thematisieren arbeitsteilig semantische, systematische und normative Aspekte menschlicher Naturverhältnisse wie Ursprung und Veränderung, die menschliche Natur, Verbindungen von Naturwissenschaft, Ethik, Technik und Ästhetik sowie bioethische, tierethische, umweltethische und klimaethische Herausforderungen.
