Academic publishing today

In light of digitalization and the constant development of electronic media, academic publishing is currently in a state of transition. Researchers can access scientific texts from anywhere and at any time. They still work with the printed book, but increasingly they also read on a tablet or smartphone. In other words: The desire for fast and convenient access to information is growing more and more. mentis meets the challenges of publishing in the digital era: From the print edition to the enhanced e-book - we realize your project in the best possible form and take care that your research results are accessible to a broad audience.

Our E-Book format

Our e-books are realized as PDF files. PDF has become established as a file format in the scientific field mainly because it is identical to the print edition in terms of pagination and can therefore be cited without ambiguity.

Distribution and Indexing

If it meets your wishes as an author, we will also offer your work in electronic form at the same time as the print edition. Our e-books are distributed in carefully compiled collections and as individual titles. We have outstanding contacts to research institutions and libraries around the world, which are regularly visited by our distribution partners. To further increase the visibility and usability of your publication, we index it in all major databases, such as Web of Science, Scopus, Summons, Primo, Ebsco Discovery or Google Scholar.

Metadata

All texts are provided with MARC records (Machine-Readable Cataloging) - the international standard for the distribution of bibliographic data. The allocation of a Digital Object Identifier (DOI), i.e. a unique identification number, ensures that articles, contributions or book chapters can also be retrieved and purchased individually. The assignment of a DOI also increases the visibility of the individual contributions and ensures citation. The DOI is permanently valid as an address and is also preserved if the storage location changes. Brill has been a member of CrossRef, the international agency for the registration of DOIs, since its foundation in 2000, and is thus well integrated into networks for online publications.
