New developments in biomedicine and the research with human tissue have made some of the classic questions in law and philosophy topical again: what is the origin of property, how far can we do as we want with our own body and is there a property right with respect to it? Recurring to some thoughts of the enlightenment philosopher Immanuel Kant the author of this article shows how our concept of the body is genuinely »modern« and in what way this understanding of body and person is a precondition for the development of the modern and liberal society. Starting from these observations he points to some analogies in the way we treat the body and organs, for example in the practice of organ donation, and thus arrives at a number of normative implications for medical ethics.
Die Ethik als philosophische Disziplin wurde gerade in Deutschland bis weit in die 70er-Jahre des vorigen Jahrhunderts hinein als weitgehend theoretische Anstrengung verstanden. Mit der Konjunktur der angewandten Ethik und hier besonders der Medizinethik halten neben einer stärkeren Art des Praxisbezuges innovative didaktische und methodische Verfahren Einzug in das Fach. Mit der ärztlichen Approbationsordnung des Jahres 2002 und der Empfehlung der Akademie für Ethik in der Medizin für ein Kerncurriculum Medizinethik erhalten diese Entwicklungen eine institutionelle Basis. Dieser Beitrag fragt nach den Konsequenzen dieser Entwicklung für den Medizinethikunterricht im Medizinstudium und stellt den Unterricht am Universitätsklinikum Göttingen dar.
